Non governmental organization "Association of the Alumni of the U.S. and Tajikistan Student Exchange Programs - TajAl" was registered in the Ministry of Justice of Tajikistan under number 1020 in September 12, 2002. Members of the association are not only alumni of the U.S. and Tajikistan student exchange programs, but also students and teachers of universities of Tajikistan. Main aim of the association is assistance in building of democratic society in Republic of Tajikistan through carry out of educational and cultural programs for population.

Since 2000 up to registration as public association the members were working under different umbrellas, like informal Alumni Club and particular program groups. Members of association for several years have been organizing clothing drives for Orphanage #2 located in Lenin District. In 2002 alumni have raised USD 500 for purchase of the hygiene items and carry out of seminar on personal hygiene for the orphans. The Project Hope Country Office donated this amount of money.

Currently, our association works with different organizations. Jointly with non governmental organization "Nasli navras" we have worked with vulnerable street children. The work included organization of series of the seminars on different subjects, clothing drives, etc. On December 10, 2002 alumni jointly with Red Crescent Society of Tajikistan had the seminar for street children on HIV-AIDS. In July-August 2003 with the financial support of the Public Diplomacy Section of the U.S. Embassy, Dushanbe the association organized country-wide alumni conference and two-week Summer School on Human Rights and International Law for alumni and students of the universities of Tajikistan. In August 2004 the association received a grant from the Public Diplomacy Section of the U.S. Embassy, Dushanbe to start income generating programs to support its activities and initiate exchange programs with foreign countries.

The association plans to have Summer School on Human Rights and International Law on annual basis and to open legal aid center for Tajik labor migrants, where labor migrant can get free-of-charge legal aid and information on labor legislation of foreign countries.
